Head of Department: Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, Doctor of Philosophy Borys Petrovych Chaikovskyi
Since 2015, the Department has conducted research on the topic “Development of Innovative Technologies for Surface Hardening of Working Components of Soil-Cultivating Machines.” Based on these studies, a new technology for surface nanostructuring of seeder dryer discs made of 65G steel was proposed. Laboratory tests of samples with surface nanostructures under abrasive wear conditions demonstrated a 2–2.5-fold increase in operational performance. Similar improvements in performance were observed in contact fatigue tests of 65G steel samples. These results create the basis for pilot-industrial testing of the discs. Following these trials, the surface hardening technology can be proposed for implementation at factories producing corresponding agricultural machinery.
Since 2019, based on the research theme “Development of Innovative Technologies for Surface Hardening of Working Components of Soil-Cultivating Machines,” the Department presented the scientific project “Development of Technology for Surface Nanostructural Hardening of Steel Components for Agricultural, Food, and Processing Industry Equipment,” funded by the general fund of the state budget.
The Department participates annually in various scientific conferences, seminars, and training sessions. Articles are regularly published in professional journals.
In addition to research, the Department is actively engaged in educational and mentoring activities. Faculty members serve as mentors, supporting students not only in academic achievement but also in cultural development. Mentors organize excursions and open classes to cultivate the spiritual and national consciousness of the next generation of young Ukrainian citizens.
