The Department of Information Systems and Technologies was established within the Faculty of Mechanics and Energy by the order of the Rector of Lviv National Agrarian University on 31 August 2018, following the corresponding decision of the University Academic Council. The Department was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor A.M. Tryhub. Since 2017, the faculty members have been preparing specialists in the specialty 126 Information Systems and Technologies at the first (Bachelor’s) level of higher education (educational program: Information Systems and Technologies).
In 2021, the Department was renamed the Department of Information Technologies due to the introduction of educational programs in the following specialties:
- 122 Computer Science at the first (Bachelor’s) level (educational program: Computer Science),
- 151 Automation and Computer-Integrated Technologies at the first (Bachelor’s) level (educational program: Automation and Computer-Integrated Technologies),
- 126 Information Systems and Technologies at the second (Master’s) level (educational program: Information Systems and Technologies).
Although the Department was established in 2018, its staff have already achieved significant success in collaboration with enterprises and IT companies. These organizations provide guidance to the Department regarding the development of the educational process and curricula for the programs Information Systems and Technologies, Computer Science, and Automation and Computer-Integrated Technologies.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in 2008 through the merger of two departments: the Department of Mechanics, Processing and Storage of Agricultural Products, and the Department of Metal Technology, Metrology, and Standardization.
The origins of the Department of Mechanical Engineering date back to 1878, when engineering and technical studies began at the Higher Agricultural School in Dublyany. At that time, students studied general technical subjects (such as drafting, physics with meteorology) as well as specialized disciplines (including engineering mechanics, materials science, and machinery for processing agricultural products), which continue to be taught at the Department today.
To support this educational process, between 1878 and 1911 the Higher School established mechanical workshops, a forge, a grain-drying floor, a distillery, fruit dryers, and presses for the production of fruit preserves.
Today, the Department of Mechanical Engineering functions as a graduating department for the specialty 133 Industrial Mechanical Engineering at the educational levels of Bachelor and Master.
Mission:
The Department’s primary objective is to train highly qualified mechanical engineers on the basis of a competency-based approach, in accordance with state industry standards and the modern requirements of the mechanical engineering sector.
Priority areas of activity include:
- strengthening the intellectual potential of the Department, expanding its research and material-technical base, and enhancing the professional development of academic staff;
- introducing innovative methods of organizing the educational process through modern pedagogical technologies aimed at professional, practical, and methodological training of future mechanical engineers;
- validating and disseminating the results of research conducted by students, postgraduate researchers, and faculty;
- undertaking research projects commissioned by state institutions and industry stakeholders;
- fostering close and systematic cooperation with educational partners and mechanical engineering enterprises under formal collaboration agreements.

Since 2023, the Department has been headed by Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor S. M. Khimka. Currently, scientific schools are successfully developing under the leadership of Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Liubomyr Krainyk, Professor Stepan Kovalyshyn, and Associate Professor Roman Shevchuk. As a result of this research, a military vehicle—the Mamaj buggy—was designed and tested, and a hybrid drive for an off-road vehicle with enhanced cross-country capability was developed. Research is also being conducted to improve the operational performance of automobiles, in particular by increasing off-road capability through independent tire pressure control.
In the educational process, the Department effectively employs the remote interactive technical training system LCMS Electude, which enables students to master vehicle design, diagnostics, and maintenance more thoroughly.
Concept for the Development of the Department of Automobiles and Tractors (2020–2025)
The faculty of the Department of Automobiles and Tractors has developed a Concept for the Department’s Development for 2020–2025. This Concept was prepared in accordance with the Concept of the State Target Program for the Development of the Agrarian Sector of the Economy until 2022 and the Concept for the Development of Lviv National Environmental University.
Mission
The Department of Automobiles and Tractors defines its mission as the preparation of highly qualified specialists who possess leadership skills and strong moral values, are competitive in the labor market, interact effectively within professional, corporate, and social environments, demonstrate social mobility, and are in demand among employers.
Main Objective
The Department’s primary goal is to meet the growing demand of the automotive industry for highly qualified specialists who possess fundamental knowledge in technical operation, repair, and computer diagnostics of vehicles, as well as in logistics and transport-expedition services for road transport. Graduates are expected to master modern knowledge in the field, utilize contemporary information technologies to serve participants of road traffic, and effectively apply their skills in practice.

The Department of Energy was established in July 2000. The necessity for its creation arose from the introduction of the specialty “Energy in Agricultural Production” at the University. The first Head of the Department was Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Mykola Oleksandrovych Medykovskyi, who is now Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, and Director of the Institute of Computer Science and Information Technologies at Lviv Polytechnic National University.
To ensure high-quality engineering training of specialists (in energy, mechanics, and construction), the Department operates six specialized laboratories:
- Renewable Energy and Energy Saving,
- Control and Measuring Instruments,
- Heat and Power Installations and Heat Supply for the Agro-Industrial Complex,
- Thermal Engineering and Heat Utilization,
- Hydraulics and Agricultural Water Supply,
- Hydraulic Drives of Agricultural Machinery.
These laboratories are equipped with modern installations and instruments. In addition, the Department maintains a computer classroom with a local network.
The Department is a member of the International Consortium “Renewable Energy LNAU – Aurora Windpower” (Ukraine–Germany) and closely collaborates with the German company Aurora Windpower GmbH (Hamburg, Germany). At the request and with the financial support of this company, a Renewable Energy Laboratory was established, where experimental models and functional prototypes of equipment for renewable energy use are developed.
Over the period of its activity, the Department’s faculty have published 11 textbooks, more than 450 scientific articles, and obtained 19 patents of Ukraine.
